Rolls Royce Power Systems is set to install a microgrid at the Abel industrial laundry in Anger, Germany, which will provide the facility with a sustainable and reliable power supply. The system, which was ordered by Abel last year and is scheduled for installation in 2024, will combine existing gas gensets with solar PV and battery storage to meet the laundry's energy needs. With this microgrid in place, Abel will have enough on-site power capacity to handle close to 60 tons of laundry per day.
The microgrid will be enhanced by the addition of the Rolls Royce mtu EnergyPack QS battery container and mtu EnergetIQ Plant Manager automation system. By integrating the batteries with the solar photovoltaic, the availability of renewable energy will be increased, and excess energy from the gas generator can also be stored, making the microgrid more efficient. This sustainable energy solution will not only benefit the environment but also contribute to reducing the operating costs of Abel's laundry facility.
Abel provides services for a C&I sector spanning approximately 11,000 square meters, serving close to 800 customers in the hotel, industrial, and healthcare sectors. The family-owned company has been at the forefront of embracing on-site energy solutions since 2014 when they first installed an mtu combined heat and power plant. The collaboration with Rolls Royce Power Systems will enable Abel to expand its energy supply system and meet its growing needs in a highly innovative and sustainable manner.
Andreas Görtz, President of the Sustainable Power Solutions division at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "It is a highlight project for us to be able to supply this sustainable energy solution for this exemplary company. We are particularly pleased that our long-standing customer, the Abel laundry, trusts in our expertise and is working with us to develop its energy supply into a highly innovative system in line with its growing needs." This partnership highlights Abel's commitment to energy efficiency and climate protection.
Abel, which has been operating its industrial laundry in Anger for over 50 years, has shown a continuous dedication to environmental sustainability. By collaborating with Rolls Royce Power Systems, the company is taking a big step towards reducing its carbon footprint and achieving its sustainability goals. The installation of the microgrid will not only provide cleaner and greener energy for the laundry operations but will also serve as a model for other industrial facilities looking to adopt sustainable energy solutions.
With the upcoming installation of the microgrid, Abel can look forward to decreasing its reliance on traditional energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing its energy cost savings. The combination of gas gensets, solar PV, and battery storage will provide a reliable and efficient power supply, ensuring uninterrupted operations for the company. Rolls Royce Power Systems continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions, and through this collaboration, Abel is able to embrace innovative technologies that align with its values and contribute to a greener future.
